The pre-departure training for the 15 finalists and the national leader representing the Philippines in the Ship for Southeast Asian and Japanese Youth Program (SSEAYP) concluded successfully. Held from July 22-27 at the scenic Forest Crest Nature Hotel and Resort in Nasugbu, Batangas, the intensive training program brought together a diverse group of participants, including five youth representatives each from Luzon, Visayas, and Mindanao.

The training, led by Dr. Herbert Glenn Reyes (PY1993 and NL2001) in partnership with the National Youth Commission, comprised various team-building activities designed to foster unity and cooperation among the group. Team-building activities, such as obstacle courses and group challenges, were instrumental in creating a sense of camaraderie and trust among the participants. Former PYs Dion Mendoza (PY2019) and Jasper Vijar (PY2016) also conducted sessions to prepare the participants for the cultural and diplomatic responsibilities they will undertake during SSEAYP. These sessions included workshops on leadership, cultural exchange, and community development.

Given the multicultural nature of SSEAYP, significant emphasis was placed on cultural sensitivity and diplomacy. Experts in international relations and cultural studies conducted seminars, helping the finalists understand and appreciate the diverse cultures they will encounter. This preparation is crucial for fostering mutual understanding and respect among the youth of Southeast Asia and Japan.

The training ended with an alumni fellowship night sponsored by the Provincial Government of Batangas, where the finalists revealed their batch name, Batch Hiraya. The batch showcased their respective cultures and talents in their national presentation, which included cheers, songs, and dances. The culminating program was graced by NYC Commissioner Atty. Reena Vivienne Pineda, where she delivered her keynote message to the finalists. The board of trustees of the SSEAYP International Philippines also attended the event, along with other alumni to celebrate the everlasting bond and connection that SSEAYP imparts to its former participants.
