In the hearts of the Panaghiusa batch of SSEAYP from 1997, the memories are etched like vibrant strokes on a canvas, each moment a testament to the bonds forged and the adventures embarked upon.
The journey began with the significance of our name, Panaghiusa, resonating deeply as we set sail from the shores of the Philippines. Unity was not just a concept but a lived experience among us, as we navigated the vast expanse of the sea aboard the WG&A Super Ferry for our Pre-Departure Training (PDT).

It was the first time our country hosted it in Cebu, adding an extra layer of excitement to our journey. Little did we know that unity would become our guiding principle throughout our entire SSEAYP adventure.

One of the most vivid memories of our journey was the audacious decision to airlift a collapsible jeepney and a bahay kubo, symbols of Filipino culture, across the seas. The sight of a fellow participant bravely footing the excess baggage bill at NAIA check-in remains a testament to the lengths we went to share our heritage with the world.
As we embarked on our voyage amidst the haze of the Asian forest fires, our spirits remained undeterred, fueled by the excitement of the unknown awaiting us in each port of call, where the looming Asian Financial Crisis added an air of uncertainty, yet we faced the challenges head-on, drawing strength from our unity.

The mezzanine balcony of our ship transformed into a gallery of Filipino artistry, adorned with a sprawling mural depicting the three main islands of the Philippines. Each stroke of paint told a story, inviting our fellow participants to explore the rich tapestry of our nation's culture.

In the midst of cultural exchange, we found solace in familiar tastes, bringing halo-halo ingredients on board to share with our newfound friends. Despite the mishaps of broken bottles, the sweetness of camaraderie lingered in every shared spoonful.

Amidst the whirlwind of experiences, we were reminded of the fragility of life as news of Princess Diana's tragic passing and then, just days later, news of Mother Teresa's departure reached us, a somber reflection on the impact of great souls on our world.
As our journey drew to a close, the memories of SSEAYP 1997 remained etched in our hearts, a testament to the power of unity, resilience, and cultural exchange in shaping our shared humanity.
